Episode 55

Monday, April 9th, 2012

I have a podcast called Train Wreck in Progress and we just reached episode #55. I interviewed Dustin Chaffin and Jeff Rose, founders of Jivemind, a new rehearsal space/studio/listening/venue facility opening in Glendale later in April. We had been painting all day and things got a little silly. Emjoy!

Another Arizona Project!

Friday, March 16th, 2012

Classical Revolution PHX has invited 5 composers to participate in their first Composition Competition. We have a little over 2 weeks to write a piece, the performers have a month to work on it, and on May 5th all of our pieces will be performed at the Tempe History Museum before a panel of judges (yes, American Idol style). The judges will pick a winner and so will the audience. The wonderful thing about this competition is that we will all walk away having worked with new performers, a performance and a recording of our piece. Let the games begin! Deadline: April 1.

Double Bass Project

Sunday, February 5th, 2012

I’ve written for a lot of strings, but not the double bass. I will be working with Catalin Rotaru, ASU’s professor of double bass, to write a piece that stems from Romantic opera but uses electronics to create a new and equally beautiful sound world. Deadline: June 1.

I am proud to be working with pianist Kate Christensen on a new work for piano, viola and two female voices. The pianist (Kate) and the violist are doubling as vocalists. I really haven’t written much for the instrument + piano configuration let alone making sure a string player can sing while they are playing… I’m pretty excited. Deadline: April 1
